The Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Scholarship offers recipients the following benefits:

The fellow receives an award of $ 25,000 per year.
An office space, battery access, interlibrary loan privileges, Internet access, the opportunity to present an article in Hagley’s seminar series, and the use of Hagley’s discounted school housing.
Eligibility for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Scholarship
To qualify for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Required languages: English
Eligible countries: all countries in the world.
A candidate must be a Ph.D. candidate who hopes to finish his dissertation before the end of the scholarship year. This is not a postdoctoral fellowship. Outside the US, citizens are qualified to apply.
Each fellow is expected to participate in two conferences, one in the fall and one in the spring. The seminar provides a means to present research and findings to the academic community of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation and the University of Virginia. The spring conference, in particular, provides an opportunity to get feedback from the mentors who are also present. The expenses of both seminars are covered by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.
A place to reside with the Jefferson Scholars Foundation is proposed, but not required for all scholars, with the exclusion of the Jefferson Scholars / Hagley Library Dissertation Fellowship (which requires a residency at the Hagley Library during the academic year). With the exclusion of Jefferson Scholars / Hagley Library Fellows, fellows who choose to reside will receive an additional stipend of $ 1,500 in lieu of expenses associated with participant travel and lodging for the spring and fall conferences.
All participants, regardless of residency, are expected to participate and contribute to the interdisciplinary community of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.

Candidate Information Sheet
Project Description (1200 words): Describe your dissertation or book, state the thesis, explain how you add to or revise existing scholarship, and how or why you decided on this particular topic.
blog post or opinion piece (750 words): a published or sample opinion piece (like the ones that appear in the New York Times) or a published or sample blog post (similar to those that look like this in Slate .com) that applies an important finding from your research to a current public policy problem
Bibliography (3 pages)
Curriculum vitae (2 pages)
Writing Sample (max 40 pages): The selected sample should consist of a chapter from your dissertation with a one-page introduction locating the chapter in the larger project OR in an accepted / published journal article
Two letters of recommendation (one of which must be from your advisor).
